VERSATILE Alpha 6160 Antenna 200 watt 6-160 Meter HF J-Pole
All Alpha Antenna systems are handmade and built to order at our shop in
Greenwood, MO, USA. We appreciate your pride and patience in your antenna system
as it is being prepared. (The pole in the photo does not come with the antenna.)
To develop the Alpha 6-160 meter J-Pole Jr Antenna we used an Antenna Analyzer that simultaneously shows the SWRs of 5 bands. The inspiration behind the J-Pole Jr from Alpha Antenna came from a combination of antenna designs, namely the J‐Pole and Zepp. Along with a matching network technology, which we attached the specially selected outdoor rated wire to, we then spent over three months cutting and trimming the wiring till we achieved a resonant antenna design on 6, 10, 15, 20, & 40 Meters and a tunable resonant pattern on 80 & 160 Meters. We adopted the J‐Pole name for this antenna because the result of our design were two separate lengths of wire that are parallel to each other. We also learned the spacing between the wiring was critical in their respective sheaths, as well as the size & number of the strands of the wire within each sheath. From the Zepp Antenna we borrowed the end-fed type design, which is also similar to the end-fed design of a standard J-Pole antenna. Although significant, the wiring is by no means the only factor in matching the antenna. The matching box allows for the antenna to be fed with 50 ohm coax at the antenna. This makes for an important design characteristic when feeding a tuner, as it keeps the RF voltages low at the base feed point.
The Alpha J-Pole Sr Antenna for 6-160 Meters is a HF J-Pole that is only 75 feet in length once it is
deployed. Plus you don't have to run it in a straight line. The unique design
characteristics of the 6-160 Meter HF JPole antenna enables it to achieve
resonance on the major HF bands (6/10/15/20/40 Meters) and presents a SWR on 80
& 160 Meters that is low for external tuners to achieve a perfect match.

Note that LMR400 coax should be saved for VHF and higher frequencies, as it provides little benefit to HF frequencies unless your coaxial run is greater than 150 feet. Coax is an integral part of an antenna system, whether it be coiled to form an air choke, or used as part of the counterpoise of an antenna when additional counterpoise wires are not used. Therefore we recommend what many HF operators have found, which is that RG8x is fine for runs of 0 to 25 feet, RG8u is good for runs of 25 to 100 feet, and RG213 is ok for 100 to 200 feet.
